Snippets of our conversation

  • What prompted you to get admitted into the CA course?

I did my higher secondary from St. Lawrence High School. All my peers were looking forward for CA which motivated me as well. As a commerce student we don’t have lot of choice after higher secondary. Considering the advice of my seniors and cousins I opted to join CA. Obviously, it was one of the best decision of my life. CA has a great combination of practical and theoretical subjects. The kind of reputation and respect which a CA gets, prompted me to join CA.

  • In retrospect, what has been your expected/unexpected and most cherished gain from your CA journey?

I think most cherished gain would be my articleship experience in EY. It helped me a lot to develop personally and professionally. Also, CA helped me to gain knowledge of various aspects of a business. Adding CA as a prefix before my name gives me immense pride and honor. My contacts have increased by 10x due to this course. Articleship period helped me to meet varied kinds of people having a different mindset.

  • What is your favorite aspect of articleship and why?

It gave me a lot of practical exposure; helped me to tackle unpredictable situations. I find myself as more extrovert post articleship. The best thing about this period is that we are learning right from the very beginning and we are not made totally responsible for client deliverables. I also got to travel lot of places during this time. Although few audits I did were in core villages but it has its own fun. The kind of connections I made is the most valuable part during this period.

  • How do you think life would have been different had you not opted for a CA?

I could not have availed the opportunities which CA provides. My learning and experience would have been totally different. If I would not have opted for CA, I could have missed the kind of connections which I have today and the practical exposure which I have got in CA.

  • Any words of advice for future CA aspirants?

You ran well throughout your life, just don’t fall down before the last lap. Be focused and get surrounded with positive minded people. The curriculum of the course is huge and it requires smart & balanced study. 80% of the course begins after IPCE. Once you start your articleship you will be both physically and mentally exhausted. It should call for patience instead of giving it up. One should always think of completing this course in the first attempt. Plan your studies well ahead and try to stick to the plan. Take a balanced approach for all the subjects. Try to connect with as many people as possible. Consider them as future CEOs of top companies over the years to come. A lot opportunities are waiting for you. All the best!
