Just witnessed the ‘Post-GST” CA results day, the quantum leap in Single Group Results as well as both group results as compared to Nov’16.
As usual it created a bell curve of happiness for the 114,354 candidates who took the exam in May’17. There are Rank-holders, First attempts, one group cleared and now a CA or one group cleared and none cleared, now waiting for 2 PM on Wednesday, 1st November 2017 to write the exam again.
34,503 candidates appeared for both groups. Of this, 23% i.e. 7,928 candidates have some reason for happiness. They have cleared either one or both groups.
(Last term the comparable number was 11.6% and so it’s almost double)
Pass % for Group -1, almost doubled from 7.14% to 13.82% last term
Pass % for Group -2 increased from 12.3% to 16.2% last term
The results brings into the 270,000+ strong community, a fresh lot of 10,276 fresher Chartered Accountants.
(Last term the comparable number was 7,192, thus a 43% increase)
In the ICAI Campus process conducted in Mar’17, 118 organisations had offered 1267 jobs out of the 4261 candidates who had registered i.e. 29.7%. Let’s hope that the off-campus recruitment drives by companies/firms as well as the Campus Process in Aug-Sep’17 augurs well for the job aspirants.
Thanks & Regards

Trend in CA Final Pass % for Both Groups
Average pass percentage is 10.2% with standard deviation of 6.4% (10 terms)
The figures may not be comparable in the strict sense of the term. Since Nov’16, ICAI has started reporting the number of candidates who appeared for both groups and cleared both/one of them.
Thus, we now do not have any sense of the number of 1st Attempt Both Group CAs who are in the system
5 year trend in Group Wise Pass%
Average pass percentage is 14.7% with standard deviation of 6.7% (10 terms)
Average pass percentage is 14.5% with standard deviation of 4.6% (10 terms)
Toppers
It is an All Boys Top 3 List. Girls as well as the North & Eastern parts of the country have missed the bus.
Raj Paresh Sheth from Dombivli, Maharashtra has scored 78.75% and secured the prestigious AIR 1. The MBB club of consulting firms as well as the premiere FMCG companies will be competing to have him on board. Or maybe he will decide to opt for UPSC or join a Big 4 in Taxation, just like Eti Agarwal, AIR 1 from Nov’16 batch did.
Agathiswaran S from Vellore and Krishna Pawan Gupta from Mumbai have stood second and third respectively.
